A rare large deal is coming together for a clean-technology manufacturing company. Investors are valuing View Inc., a maker of electronically tinting window glass, at about $750 million pre-money in a new deal that could bring as much as $100 million of fresh capital into the company, a person familiar with the situation told Venture Capital Dipatch.
Because of a special coating, View says its window glass lets in as much daylight as is pleasant, but not so much that it causes glare, eliminating the need for window coverings and ensuring that people get to see the view throughout the day. By adjusting, automatically or via a smartphone, how much sunlight comes through, the glass also helps heat or cool a building naturally, reducing electricity spend, View says.
